Secure enclosures for ACT Construction (UK) Ltd, an industrial composite panel installation contractor

Contractor ACT Construction (UK) Ltd specialises in industrial composite panel installation. It builds secure environments and offers fire and security rated partitions to clients across a wide range of sectors, including food, retail, pharmaceutical, electronic, health and research & development.

Working with Securiclad, ACT Construction (UK) Ltd was asked to employ a high security modular system solution to safeguard non-toxic radioactive material stored by a major multi-national company, in a potentially vulnerable site.

Once completed, the installation formed a high security environment in which to store the radioactive materials – and which met new heightened Government regulations.

Project requirements

The new guidelines determined that a robust and layered approach to security at the site was required due to the nature of the hazardous materials being stored. On this basis the client commissioned the installation of a secure room within a larger secure enclosure at its facility.

ACT Construction (UK) Ltd utilised Securiclad’s modular panel system to form an enclosure, rated to Loss Prevention Standard (LPS) 1175 Security Rating (SR) 4 and then built in an additional LPS 1175 SR3 rated room.

The highest rated external enclosure was built to resist determined attack from implements including sledgehammers, disc grinders, jig saws and felling axes.

These enclosures incorporated double doors rated to LPS 1175 SR4 and LPS 1175 SR3 respectively.

The double-enclosure structure presented a challenge, as both rooms had to be built concurrently. However, by using a progressive build philosophy, ACT Construction (UK) Ltd was able to overcome this. The Securiclad system is extremely flexible and easily demountable and its ease of installation on-site enabled the company to work on both rooms simultaneously, and create bespoke enclosures which met the client’s specifications.
