Securiclad provided an external ‘envelope’ to enhance the overall security performance of a storage site at a major London airport. This was accomplished by the use of Securiclad’s security wall and ceiling panels rated to LPS 1175 SR4 to provide the primary barrier, which enclosed a second structure.
The need for this solution was identified following the findings of a police counter terrorism security adviser – such advisers provide protective security advice to transport infrastructure sites, as well as to a host of other organisations and installations.
The adviser stated that the facilities and method of storage for a highly sensitive product at the airport did not achieve the standard required for such material.
When completed, the Securiclad installation formed a safe and secure environment in which to store sensitive materials, which reduced the risks associated with exposure to them.
The secure area installed by Securiclad needed to have a robust and durable finish, with the wall panels fitted to concrete slabs and the ceiling panels supported by an integral steel framework. Securiclad worked with an approved door manufacturer to provide easy access to enable day to day operations in the area to be undertaken. The finished installation also needed to be hygienic and low maintenance.
Installation was carried out by personnel cleared to the appropriate air-side security level, who worked alongside other contractors. Appropriate and applicable certification was also provided by Securiclad and its approved installers.
